Lucky Girl Market Annapolis
This past Sunday Nap Town Flee teamed up with Lucky Girl Market to host a vintage market on Marykand Avenue in Annapolis. Maryland Avenue is the oldest continuously operating commercial street in the US, according to one of the shopkeepers I spoke with.
I got there around lunch time and it was absolutely packed. I wanted to take photos, but it was impossible to take pictures without like, being in someone’s face, so here is a photo of the end of the market from a distance.
The stalls were on both sides of the street and went basically the whole two ~ three blocks.
Most of the stalls were selling Y2K / 90s vintage clothing, and, I have to be really honest, that is not my favorite style. However, there were a few vendors selling older vintage items from the 50s/60s/70s/80s as well as a few antique dealers and two or three people selling kawaii things (though one seller was selling vintage anime clothing from the 90s + kawaii items).
I picked up a few things. First, I got a french barrette with silver floral scrollwork on the ends, and a little pin that looks like raspberries? It looks like the tag on the back says hollyberries though? I like them, whatever they are.
Next, I went in to Ka-Chunk!! Records which is a record store that is just on that street. They have a selection of used CDs as well and I found a copy of the ANIMEX Sailor Moon Music Collection still in the plastic. This CD was originally released in 1992, with a 2010 and 2015 re-release. I assume mine is a re-release (at least I really hope so because I opened it). It has the opening and ending song from the first season of the Anime, plus a bunch of the orchestral background music.
I picked up this vintage (antique?) violet postcard from a seller of household antiques. The back says that postage is 1c, and postage increased to 2c in1952 so it’s for sure pre-1952. I put it in a Laura Ashley frame I had purchased for a gallery wall in my living room and I think I’ll include it in the gallery wall when I get enough frames to put it all up.
There was a seller with vintage anime shirts and other similar items for most of their booth that had a small collection of sanrio keychains and little kawaii items.
I got the impression they were selling off like duplicate blind bag pulls and things like that, it didn’t feel like they were wholesale buying these things or anything like that.
They had this little marshmallow mouse loose in a basket. She’s a little dusty, but I don’t have this specific marshmallow mouse (I think she’s from the town series and had a purse with her initially? She didn’t have her purse, but I don’t mind that). Just a preliminary dusting already improved her condition a lot.
I also visited a number of antique shops on the street that are open there all the time. Inside Evergreen Antiques and True Vintage, I saw this hydrangea half-hat with blue velvet ribbon that was really pretty. However, the base that the velvet bow was attached to was really delicate birdcage net and I was a little worried if it was strong enough to be worn? There was a criss-cross base headband type thing under it that was clearly sturdy, but the bow was just in the net. I didn’t get it but I keep thinking about it. Should I go back for it? They also had these really pretty electric glass candelabra
Just down the street was another antique store. I think this was blue crab antiques? They had some really pretty glass bottles (I couldn’t get a photo of the ones I really liked) and a cool vintage coke… window? It was packed with stuff, but it was also kind of pricy stuff.
There was another antique shop I went into that had no prices on anything and no register I saw? They had some cute wedgewood, but I couldn’t figure out how to buy it, and I wasn’t 100% sure I hadn’t wandered into someone’s storage shed.
I went into Old Fox Books, which is a bookshop that sells new and used books. It was so packed that I couldn’t really shop, but here is their skeleton riding a carousel hippocampus. I also passed the cutest floral shop ever. It doesn’t even look real. I feel like I could live in either of these shops and be happy.
After the market I walked down to the end of the street where there is the Hammond-Harwood House museum. They host tours (for a fee), but they are on the hour and it was 20 min past 1pm and I wasn’t going to wait until 2pm because I had somewhere I needed to be at 3pm. I did go in to the little viewing exhibit room they had there (which is free to enter), and they had some really pretty cobalt wedgewood.
Lastly I took a bit of a walk down to the water. Saw some great architecture and got some black raspberry icecream from Storm Brother’s
Today’s coord was Infanta-based. I wanted something cool because it was humid and in the 80s and I was outside in the sun. Also, I feel like strawberries just fit the vintage vibe?
The JSK and the blouse are both from Infanta. The JSK is Gingham Strawberry Cotton JSK. The blouse is Strawberry Embroidery Double Sided Short Sleeve Chiffon Blouse.
The bag is Little Bear Kindergarten’s Strawberry Picking Straw Bag.
The shoes are offbrand (LifeStride Kimball Espadrille Wedge Sandals). I picked these up at the start of the summer and they are super comfortable, and have a nice vintage sort of vibe, but can be worn without legwear in the summer.
What do you all think, should I go back for the vintage half hat?
