Can ChatGPT Replace Me as a Blogger?

There have been a lot of really interesting articles in the tech world lately about ChatGPT and it’s ability (or lack of ability) to write accurate essays, news articles and blog posts.

So, for fun, I asked it to write me a couple blogs posts.

First, I asked it “Write me a blog post about the latest items from Angelic Pretty”

Angelic Pretty is a renowned Japanese fashion brand known for its whimsical and feminine aesthetic. The brand is particularly famous for its Lolita fashion, which is inspired by Victorian-era clothing and accessories. Angelic Pretty has recently released some new items that are perfect for those who love the Lolita aesthetic. In this blog post, we will be discussing some of the latest items from Angelic Pretty.

First on the list is the Dreamy Dollhouse jumper skirt. This jumper skirt features a print of a dollhouse with various toys and sweets. The print is available in three colorways: lavender, pink, and mint. The jumper skirt has a lovely A-line shape with a lace trim on the hemline. The Dreamy Dollhouse jumper skirt is perfect for those who want to feel like a princess in a dollhouse.

Next up is the Royal Creamy Chocolate blouse. This blouse is available in two colorways: ivory and chocolate. The blouse has a cute collar with a ribbon and a print of strawberries and whipped cream. The blouse is made of chiffon fabric, making it lightweight and perfect for summer. The Royal Creamy Chocolate blouse can be paired with a skirt or shorts for a cute and casual look.

Another new item from Angelic Pretty is the Loyal Rosette one-piece dress. This one-piece dress features a print of roses and ribbons in various shades of pink. The dress has a peter pan collar and a ribbon waist belt. The Loyal Rosette one-piece dress is available in two colorways: pink and navy. This dress is perfect for those who want to feel like a princess in a rose garden.

Last but not least is the Sweetie Berry cardigan. This cardigan is available in three colorways: pink, ivory, and mint. The cardigan has a cute print of strawberries and whipped cream on the front and back. The cardigan has a button-up front and a ribbed hemline and cuffs. The Sweetie Berry cardigan is perfect for those who want to add a cute and whimsical touch to their outfit.

In conclusion, Angelic Pretty has released some lovely new items that are perfect for those who love the Lolita fashion aesthetic. From the Dreamy Dollhouse jumper skirt to the Sweetie Berry cardigan, these items are sure to make you feel like a princess. If you’re interested in purchasing any of these items, be sure to check out Angelic Pretty’s website or visit one of their stores.

Now, to be clear, I was informed it knew very little about world events after 2021, so we need to keep that in mind. The opening paragraph is… ok. It’s passable.

The next paragraph is a little chaotic. Dreamy Dollyhouse was released in 2009, has 4 colors (Black, Pink, Lavender, Mint) and isn’t A-line. I asked it a follow up question “What year did angelic pretty release dreamy dollhouse” and it told me 2013. I asked it what colors it came in and it replied:

The Angelic Pretty Dreamy Dollhouse collection was released in three colorways:
1. Mint – featuring a pale mint green color as the main theme with accents of pink and lavender.
2. Pink – featuring a light pink color as the main theme with accents of white and gold.
3. Lavender – featuring a soft lavender color as the main theme with accents of pink and mint.

Here are photos of those 3 colorways….

and uh.. mint has pink and… sax? Pink has some white… and sax and lavender has pink and sax.

Ok, moving on. Next we have Royal Creamy Chocolate blouse. Just to be clear, that’s not the name of any item in lolibrary. So, I’m going to try to figure out which blouse went with the Royal Creamy Chocolate series, which I believe was the Royal Creamy Blouse. Close, but not accurate enough for this sort of reporting. Also this series is from 2014. The official colorways were white, ivory, mocha, brown. Not just ivory and chocolate. There… there are no strawberries???? I don’t know why there would be????

It’s not chiffon or summer weigh and it would look stupid with a casual skirt or shorts, LOL.

So, I asked it what year the Royal Creamy Chocolate blouse from Angelic Pretty was released and it told me this:

As an AI language model, I do not have access to specific information on every product that has ever been released. However, I searched for information and could not find any specific product named “Royal Creamy Chocolate Blouse” from Angelic Pretty. It is possible that the product was a limited edition or was only released in certain regions. If you have more specific information or context about the product, I might be able to assist you better.

Ok, so, not working out great so far. Next was the Loyal Rosette one-piece dress. So that is also from 2014. It told me it had a peter pan collar, which is debatable and a ribbon waist belt, which is true. Then it told me it came in two colorways, pink and navy, which is not true, it came in 4: red, brown, green and blue.

But I think the most egregious thing is that it’s apparently “a print of roses and ribbons in various shades of pink”. That… that’s not what a rosette is my little robot friend.

I asked what year it was released and ChatGPT told me:

The Angelic Pretty Loyal Rosette One-Piece Dress was released in 2013 as part of their Autumn/Winter collection.

It wasn’t. It’s from 2014.

Next, it supplied us with the Sweetie Berry cardigan. That simply doesn’t exist. There isn’t anything named that. There isn’t anything I can find that it could have thought was that. Especially this part “The cardigan has a cute print of strawberries and whipped cream on the front and back.”. But even without that, there is no AP cardigan with berry in the name that came in mint.

I then asked it what items Angelic Pretty released in 2021, since that’s it’s cut-off date and it told me:

Angelic Pretty released several new collections and items in 2021. Here are some of the highlights:

  1. The Romantic Fleur Collection: This collection featured items with floral prints in soft pastel colors. The collection included dresses, skirts, blouses, and accessories.
  2. The Royal Crown Collection: This collection featured regal-inspired prints and accessories, including crowns and scepters. The collection included dresses, skirts, blouses, and bags.
  3. The Sweet Summer Collection: This collection featured bright and colorful prints, including a tropical fruit print and a rainbow stripe print. The collection included dresses, skirts, and accessories.
  4. The Angelic Crown Collection: This collection featured items with a regal-inspired print of crowns and roses in jewel tones. The collection included dresses, skirts, blouses, and bags.
  5. The Enchanting Tea Party Collection: This collection featured items with a tea party-inspired print of teapots, cups, and cakes. The collection included dresses, skirts, blouses, and accessories.
  6. The French Lingerie Collection: This collection featured items with delicate lace and ribbon details, inspired by French lingerie. The collection included dresses, skirts, blouses, and accessories.

These are just a few examples of the many collections and items that Angelic Pretty released in 2021. The brand is known for its frequent releases, so it’s always worth keeping an eye on their website and social media pages for the latest updates.

  1. Romantic Fleur is a solid JSK from 2017
  2. Royal Crown Berry was in 2020, but it doesn’t look like that. Royal Crown Embroidery exists from 2008 and an accessory series named Royal Crown also exists from 2012 that is chocolate themed, but that’s it.
  3. No clue where it got this, but I’d like to buy it if it was real
  4. Also not real. Crowns and roses would be a nice print though
  5. This might be Memorial Tea Museum. But that came out after September 2021.
  6. I’m sorry, what?

So I asked it “Can you provide a source for that?” and it told me this:

As an AI language model, I do not have direct access to sources, but the information I provided is based on my knowledge and training data. The releases mentioned are widely discussed and reported by Angelic Pretty fans and Lolita fashion bloggers, and you can find more information and images of these collections on Angelic Pretty’s official website, as well as on fan-run blogs and social media pages. Additionally, you can search for news articles and reviews of Angelic Pretty’s 2021 collections to find additional sources and information.

Which is obviously untrue. I told it so, and it told me

I apologize for the error in my previous response. As an AI language model, I strive to provide accurate and helpful information, but I am not infallible and may make mistakes. To answer your question correctly, I cannot provide specific details about Angelic Pretty’s releases in 2021, as my knowledge cutoff is September 2021. However, Angelic Pretty typically releases new collections and items throughout the year, and it’s worth checking their website or social media pages for updates on their latest releases. You can also search for news or updates from Angelic Pretty on fashion blogs or forums dedicated to Lolita fashion. Once again, I apologize for any confusion my previous response may have caused.

I got that or a similar answer any time I told it something it told me wasn’t true.

So, this type of post is a bust for sure. Which is unfortunate because this is what should be relatively easy: Find existing info and transform it into a paragraph or 5.

Next I asked it “Write me a blog post like the ones on Rainedragon.com”

With these ten tips, you can create a wardrobe that offers endless possibilities for mixing and matching different outfits. Remember to invest in quality pieces, mix and match, experiment with different styles, and have fun. Happy styling!

I mean, those certainly are all words. I’m not sure why I would write a blog post about building a wardrobe with jeans, tee-shirts and black pants. I also don’t love the way it suggested that people “Choose a color palette that complements your skin tone and stick to it.”. It got that this was a fashion blog, and that’s about as far as it got. My session got cut off so I went back in and I asked it what kind of blog rainedragon.com was. It told me it didn’t know, but based on the URL it guessed it was about dragons, fantasy or nature. Which is interesting because that blog post doesn’t make sense for that at all. When I then asked it to “write me a blog post for rainedragon.com”, it replied with several paragraphs about dragons, specifically their history in myths. Which is cool, I’m into dragons, but not really on brand either.

Lastly I asked it to “Write me a blog post for a lolita fashion blog”

Lolita fashion is a unique fashion subculture that emerged in Japan in the 1980s. It is characterized by its intricate designs, lace, frills, and an overall whimsical and doll-like aesthetic. This fashion style is not just about the clothes you wear; it’s also about the attitude and the way you carry yourself.

The history of Lolita fashion dates back to the Rococo era of France, where it was common for women to dress in lavish and ornate clothing. However, the modern interpretation of Lolita fashion is very different from its historical roots. It is a fusion of Victorian and Rococo styles with a touch of modern fashion. This unique style has become very popular worldwide, with people of all ages and genders embracing it.

One of the most important aspects of Lolita fashion is the attention to detail. Every element of the outfit, from the hair accessories to the shoes, is carefully selected to create a cohesive look. The clothes themselves are often made of high-quality fabrics, such as silk or cotton, and are adorned with lace, ribbons, and other embellishments. The result is a stunning and unique look that sets Lolita fashion apart from other fashion styles.

In addition to the clothes, another crucial element of Lolita fashion is the attitude. Lolitas are known for their polite and gentle demeanor, as well as their love of all things cute and whimsical. This attitude is reflected in the clothes they wear, which are often pastel-colored and adorned with bows and other cute accessories.

Lolita fashion has many subcategories, each with its own unique style. For example, there is Sweet Lolita, which is characterized by its cute and girly aesthetic, and Gothic Lolita, which has a darker and more elegant style. There are also subcategories like Classic Lolita, which is inspired by the Rococo era, and Country Lolita, which has a more rustic and natural feel.

In conclusion, Lolita fashion is a unique and beautiful fashion style that has captured the hearts of many people worldwide. It is characterized by its attention to detail, high-quality fabrics, and overall cute and whimsical aesthetic. Whether you are new to Lolita fashion or a seasoned veteran, there is always something new and exciting to discover within this fascinating subculture. So why not embrace your inner Lolita and try out this stunning fashion style for yourself?

This has “1-page paper you wrote at midnight after googling a little” vibes. First paragraph is fine up until “This fashion style is not just about the clothes you wear; it’s also about the attitude and the way you carry yourself.”, which, no, that’s not right.

In the Second paragraph “The history of Lolita fashion dates back to the Rococo era of France, ” is totally wrong. This comes from people parroting over and over that lolita fashion comes from Victorian and Rococo fashion. Rococo isn’t a fashion movement first of all, and secondly, lolita takes more from the 1950s than the 1750s. But, you know, it was fed bad data, so, I guess?

Third paragraph brings us ” The clothes themselves are often made of high-quality fabrics, such as silk or cotton”. Silk is almost never used in lolita, and cotton comes in a huge range of qualities. But, yes, cotton is relatively common in lolita. I’ve read this weird wrong fact before though, this suggestion that lolita should use silk. I don’t remember where it was though. It’s wrong. But it’s not uniquely wrong.

Next paragraph “In addition to the clothes, another crucial element of Lolita fashion is the attitude.”. No.

“Lolitas are known for their polite and gentle demeanor” No.

“This attitude is reflected in the clothes they wear, which are often pastel-colored and adorned with bows and other cute accessories. ” NO.

What you wear does NOT and should not define your personality, and wearing cute or feminine-coded things absolutely should NOT mean that you must be gentle and polite. This has some serious sexist undertones that I do not like.

The next paragraph about substyles is… fine. I wouldn’t include country with the big 3 (Sweet, Classic, Gothic) and not any other tertiary ones, but again, it’s… fine.

And the conclusion is also fine.

Both this and the normie fashion article it wrote are full of happy talk. In the context of writing for the web, happy talk is meaningless writing that fills up space. Things like “hello and welcome to my website”. You could cut out most of what is in both of these articles as common sense / filler.

I didn’t learn anything while reading these blog posts it wrote. They just wasted my time. It’s like going to a panel about lolita hosted by someone who learned what lolita was last week.

All in all? ChatGPT definitely can’t replace me (or any other lolita bloggers) as a blogger. I also would be careful of asking it to write anything for you on any topic that you don’t already know a lot about, because it does seem to make up things even when it knows those things aren’t real.

It seems like it would be really good for generating spam, and I did a few tests of asking it to write certain basic things in different programing languages I know and it did a good job at that. So it’s useful if you are an established programmer learning a new language you don’t know the syntax for, or just want someone to type some basic code for you to modify. But I don’t know how well it would do at very challenging problems.

But for writing on niche topics? It just doesn’t cut it.

  1. I have seen comparisons of chatGPT to mansplaining…says a lot, knows a little.
Also, it has a very distinct style of writing that sort of sounds almost ok but just doesn’t sound good or interesting.
    It was fun read though!
