Winter 2019-2020 Lucky Pack Round Up!

Hey guys, I caught a bad virus (pretty sure it was a mild strain of the flu) from a coworker earlier in November, and I’m still recovering, so apologies if I’m slow to update this.

Lucky Packs, or “Fukubukuro” / 福袋 (sometimes called “Lucky Bags”, “Happy Bags”, “Happy Packs”, “Happy Sets” or sometimes “Special Sets”) are blind bags of clearance merchandise that you can buy from Japanese stores at the end of the year. It’s believed that keeping old things into the new year is bad luck, so to get rid of all of last year’s clearance that didn’t sell in winter clearance sales, shops will put it in these blind bags and then sell them at a huge discount. It’s a great way to get a lot of brand new stuff for very cheap… as long as you like and fit into pretty much everything a brand makes. Be aware though; you will not get the best selling, most perfect item from the brand of your dreams. If they had a dud item this season, chances are that’s what you are going to get.

It’s become a little like “black friday” in the United States where some stores that don’t have great things to put on sale (maybe they just don’t have a lot of clearance) will often stock a limited number of a specific item just for these sales. In these cases, they usually call them “Special Sets”, instead of “Lucky Packs”. These bags can contain either all items that were made just for these sets, or a mix of special items and clearance. Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Angelic Pretty both design new prints for their new years special sets. While Metamorphose is known to use leftover material to make skirts and dresses in simple patterns.

The list got super long in the last few last years, so I’m including a quick-jump list. I’m also not including anything outside of Japan this year (at least not yet), again, just to keep this manageable.

2020 Corset lucky bag
20,000 yen

This pack has an estimated retail value of 47,000 yen. You can pick which corset you get and the size, but they are all older (clearance) corsets. You can pick from size 2 / small (46cm waist fully closed), size 3 / medium (50cm waist fully closed), or size 4 / large. Measurements for size 4 aren’t listed, but 46cm fully closed seems to be the most common L size measurement for their current stock. You can also pick the socks. They will pick the cutsew, but there are only two options and both options come in cream or wine.

Each pack contains
Corset x 1 (your pick of size and style)
Legwear x 1 (your pick of color and style)
Cutsew x 1 (random)
Accessory x 1 (random)

Note: It says you should put your second choice in the comments / remarks section. I’m not 100% certain if that’s the 2nd choice, like, if you don’t get the corset you want, or if they mean 2nd choice, like the socks you want. Right now, there is only a corset drop down on the shopping page.

2020 clothes lucky bag
15,000 Yen

This pack has an estimated retail value of 45,000 yen. You can pick the dress or skirt and the legwear. They will pick the cutsew, but there are only two options and both options come in cream or wine.

Each pack contains
Skirt or JSK x 1 (your pick of color and style)
Legwear x 1 (your pick of color and style)
Cutsew x 1 (random)
Accessory x 1 (random)

Note: It says you should put your second choice in the comments / remarks section. I’m not 100% certain if that’s the 2nd choice, like, if you don’t get the corset you want, or if they mean 2nd choice, like the socks you want. Right now, there is only a corset drop down on the shopping page.

2020 Leg wear lucky bag
8,000 yen

You can pick the full contents of this pack. You pick your favorite 3 pairs of tights or thigh highs and that’s what you get. You save about 1,000 yen per pair. There are no limits, you can buy multiple packs. If you buy 3 or more packs though, they want you to use Sagawa Express shipping for domestic Japanese shipping (like if you use a service like tenso for example)

Each pack contains
Legwear x 3

Note: It says you should put your first 5 choices in the comments / remarks section, (numbered in order of preference). This is in case the pairs you want are sold out.

Axes Femme [Source]

Online: 11/15 20:00 (8pm Tokyo Time)

Axes Femme Bag
11,000 yen
5 pieces – It’s not clear if the photo is an example, or you get exactly the types of pieces listed, but the example shows:
Coat / outerwear x 1
Dress x 1
Inner-wear top x 1
Blouse x 1
Skirt x 1

Poetique Bag
13,200 yen
5 pieces – It’s not clear if the photo is an example, or you get exactly the types of pieces listed, but the example shows:
Coat / outerwear x 1
Dress x 1
Vest x 1
Blouse x 1
Skirt x 1

Kawaii Bag
27,500 yen
5 pieces – It’s not clear if the photo is an example, or you get exactly the types of pieces listed, but the example shows:
Cape / Outerwear x 1
Dress x 1
Accessory x 1
Blouse x 1
Skirt x 1

It also says something like “click here for the pattern of the dress” but it’s not clickable. I assume that the tiny print slice shown is the print for the dress in the pack though.

Kids (130/140 cm) Bag
8,800 yen
5 pieces – It’s not clear if the photo is an example, or you get exactly the types of pieces listed, but the example shows:
Cape / Outerwear x 1
Dress x 2
Blouse x 1
Skirt x 1

It also says something like “click here for the pattern of the dress” again but it’s not clickable. I assume that the tiny print slice shown are the prints for the dresses. I would assume that if it follows the silhouettes exactly that it’s a berry JSK and a solid OP with a bow, but I can’t say that for sure. This is just conjecture.

IMPORTANT – Every time I post kid’s clothes at least one person gets confused, so I want to be very clear. 130cm / 140cm is not indicating the bust or waist measurements. This is NOT a plus-sized series. 130cm / 140cm is height. This is for a Japanese child between 4’3″ and 4’7″ tall. This clothing is roughly for a 9 year old.

Online Only Bag
11,000 yen
6 pieces – It’s not clear if the photo is an example, or you get exactly the types of pieces listed, but the example shows:
Tunic x 1
Dress x 1
“Innerwear” Top x 1
Knit top x 1
Skirt x 1
Haori Jacket? x 1 (I assume some sort of outerwear top, but I’m not 100% certain if that is the correct translation).

It also says something like “click here for the pattern of the dress” but it’s not clickable. I assume that the tiny print slice shown is the print for the dress in the pack though.

Enchantlic Enchantilly

December 13th, 2019 – 20:00

2020年HappyBag

With Chantilly, the image is usually a hint to the print, so I would expect this print to be this piano print, but it’s not guaranteed. This pack has 5 pieces in total, with a value of 40,000 yen. It includes:

  • Unreleased pattern JSK (perfect for those who like black x red classic pieces)
  • Limited item violin and beautiful musical score Over knee socks (Brown)
  • Head accessory
  • Cute miscellaneous goods

The jumper skirt has the following measurements (back shirring)
Length: BNP-approx. 107cm
Bust: approx. 78-105cm

Favorite One [Source]

Favorite One posted their 2020 lucky packs on November 7th, and there are a ton of them. I’ll be highlighting some of the more lolita / otome styled ones, but seriously, check out the full list if you are at all interested. Note that most of these items are available outside of the lucky packs as well, and also that while there is a discount, it’s not as sharp of a discount as some other brands. The ones that are roughly $200 have roughly $250 of merchandise for example. They are pretty up front about how much you are saving though, with a “5000 yen off” or whatever the discount is section on each one.

Otona Collection [x]

Teddy Bear Bag [x]
24,980 yen
3 pieces:
Suspender skirt x 1
Cardigan with applique x 1 (shown in red)
Underskirt x 1

Princess Roomwear Bag [x]
13,490 yen
3 pieces:
Princess blanket roomwear dress x 1

Your choice of Little Red Ridding Hood, Alice, Snow White, or The Witch. Note that one review states that the underskirt is shorter than the roomwear dress.

Honey Cinnamon [Source] [Source 2]

Online: December 1st, 2019

Details have not yet been released about the Honey Cinnamon 2020 lucky packs, however, it appears there will be a more girly one and a more unisex one.

Update 11/22 – More details have come out!

2020 Honey Bag – Girly
11,000 Yen

Contains 5 items, and it seems to be what you see is what you get.

2020 Honey Bag – Unisex
11,000 Yen

Contains 5 items, and it seems to be what you see is what you get.

Innocent World

December 2nd, 2019 – 12:00

All three of the packs have a new OP and a pair of lucky pack exclusive (for now) socks. You can pick the size and color of the OP, but the socks are random.

2020 Happy Pack 80,000yen Set
80,000 yen

This pack has an estimated value of 210,000 yen, and you can pick “M” or “L” for the sizing. Regardless of what size you pick, you will get some standard IW “M” shirred pieces in the mix. The new dress is valued at 24,800yen and the socks are valued at 2,500 yen, so the rest of the items will likely add up to 182,700. The example image shows 6 more JSKs, a coat and two pairs of tights, that’s probably pretty accurate

Contents:
– New “Heart-shaped Circular Flare Dress” x 1 (you pick the color and size)
– New “Heart and Ribbon OTKs” x 1 (lucky pack exclusive)
– Clothing and Accessories adding up to a total value of 210,000 yen

2020 Happy Pack 50,000yen Set
50,000 yen

This pack has an estimated value of 130,000 yen, and you can pick “M” or “L” for the sizing. Regardless of what size you pick, you will get some standard IW “M” shirred pieces in the mix. The new dress is valued at 24,800yen and the socks are valued at 2,500 yen, so the rest of the items will likely add up to 102,700. The example image shows 3 more JSKs, an OP and two pairs of tights, that’s probably pretty accurate.

Contents:
– New “Heart-shaped Circular Flare Dress” x 1 (you pick the color and size)
– New “Heart and Ribbon OTKs” x 1 (lucky pack exclusive)
– Clothing and Accessories adding up to a total value of 130,000 yen

2020 Happy Pack 30,000yen Set
30,000 yen

This pack has an estimated value of 30,000 yen, and you can pick “M” or “L” for the sizing. Regardless of what size you pick, you will get some standard IW “M” shirred pieces in the mix. Because the dress is valued at 24,800 yen and the socks are valued at 2,500 yen, the extra dress in this pack winds up only costing 2,700 yen. So if you are interested in the new dress, this is a great chance to snag a second IW dress for under $30 USD.

Contents:
– New “Heart-shaped Circular Flare Dress” x 1 (you pick the color and size)
– New “Heart and Ribbon OTKs” x 1 (lucky pack exclusive)
– Additional OP or JSK x 1 (random)

Marble [Source]

Most of these packs have different options, like Alt, Gothic, Gothic Lolita, or Lolita, and then they might have even more of break down like a skirt+vest set or a dress set.

They mention that it’s a coordinated pack, so presumably, you are getting a “matching” outfit a shop person put together from their clearance items.

10,000 yen pack
Total number of pieces: 7-9
Total Value: 28,000 yen to 32,000 yen

15,000 yen pack
Total number of pieces: 8-10
Total Value: 35,000-38,000 yen

20,000 yen pack
Total number of pieces: 8-11

Happy Bag ♡ 20,000 yen

This bag has a 60,000 yen value and contains clearance clothing and accessories. Shoes and bags are also possible, and they have you select your shoe size from S/M/L.

It sounds like they are also trying to do their best to match pierced earrings up with people who have pierced ears, so you can write in the comments section of the order if you want earrings.

Happy Bag♡5,000円

This is an accessory pack (no clothing, shoes or full purses), with a value of 15,000 yen. It might include socks and pouches as well.

This one doesn’t mention pierced earrings like the other one does, oddly enough. Not sure if that means earrings won’t be included, or if it means they simply aren’t bothering to differentiate on the cheaper packs

Happy Bag♡10,000円(KIDS)

This is a clothing set, and you can select 120cm size or 140cm size. You will get two clothing pieces in that size.

Reminder since there is frequently confusion on this point: 140cm and 120cm are heights, not bust or waist measurements. These items are made for children around 10-ish years of age. Please consult the measurements of other items by the brand and compare them to the sizing of your child’s clothing if you are buying this pack for your kid.

To Alice (Japan) [Source]

To Alice is technically a Chinese brand, and I know I said I wasn’t going to do non-Japanese brands to try to keep this list reasonably short, but they have a Japanese retail shop and they announced lucky packs specifically for their Japanese Shop, and I ran into the info on twitter, so I’m including the promo image for them on the list. The Japanese Webshop is http://www.toalice.co.jp/

  1. Hello! I was wondering if you happened to know if Axes Femme would be restocking lucky bags in a different online store around December like they did last year?

    1. I’m sorry, I don’t know. Do you remember what shop it was? Was it the https://globalshop.axesfemme.com/ one? If so, I’d say follow the social media for that site in particular and see if they post anything in the future. I don’t see any news posted about it yet, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen later. I’ll try to keep an eye on it too and I’ll update here if I learn anything.
